Contemporary Design at The Filaments (posted 24th September 2013)
Earlier in the year we were commissioned by Mount Anvil to work on the full interior specification of The Filaments in Wandsworth, London. As well as to design The Show Apartments and Marketing Suite. The site was launched in May this year.
The original location of the development was an old lighting factory, hence the name ‘The Filaments’, so the use of lighting was key to the overall design of the Marketing Suite. The mix of fittings over the reception desk and the collection of flex and bulbs over the seating areas reflect this and create a distinctive atmosphere.
The colour palette in the Marketing Suite is bright and vivacious with fresh and vibrant splashes of colour, set into a backdrop of a grounded, rich, darker palette. For example the purple walls in the suite are offset by the powder blue of the sofa. The use of dark grey walls throughout provides a rich backdrop which off-sets the punchier colours in yellow, pink and powder blue.

When designing the interior specification for the apartments, we chose sleek, high-gloss and contemporary products. The bathrooms feature surface mounted square ceramic basins with mixer taps; built in mirrored cabinets; de-mist mirrors; wall hung w/c’s with a soft close lid function; a heated chrome ladder towel rail and large format ceramic feature wall tiles.

The kitchens continue the contemporary design, utilising high-gloss handless cupboards, sleek Corian worktops, stainless-steel appliances and faux driftwood splashbacks.

The overall look and feel in the two bed apartment is warm and inviting. This was created through the use of rich, deep tones of walnut furniture combined with modern chrome and statement wall colours. To soften the edges texture and detail were added to each of the rooms, such as the patchwork cowhide rug in the living room, and the cloud-effect wallpaper in bed one. The spaces were further enhanced through the use of unique artwork, for example above the sofa in the living room, and above the bed in the bed two, creating a personal touch.
Helen was the Designer who worked on the project, and comments: “One of the aspects that stands out in the two bedroom apartment is the wallpaper mural in the bed one. It creates impact and texture but it is still calm and relaxing, perfect for a bedroom.”

The four bedroom apartment is large and spacious with a sophisticated interior design, one that appeals to professional couples and friends sharing. The overall design has been kept current, following through with a mix of contemporary finishes and bursts of colour. Each of the bedrooms is unique, expressing its own personality and appealing to varied tastes.
Bed one features an oversized, ceiling-height wooden headboard and tree wallpaper with a hand-drawn feel. A serene, comfortable and relaxing room.

Bed two features a bespoke punch-button headboard with a selection of vintage buttons, each unique and individually chosen. This is a more vibrant room with splashes of green and a rich blue on the wall behind the bed, providing a dramatic backdrop.

Bed three has a monochrome palette with geometrical patterns on the bed and a hound’s-tooth headboard with splashes of mustard yellow in the cushions and an intriguing selection of images above the bed.

“The styling of a show apartment is critical and can make or break a design. We pride ourselves on how we dress each room and space, as we always aim for the right mix of individuality and stylish finish – these show apartments are a perfect example of this” said Helen.

All the furniture in this apartment was kept fairly contemporary with personality added through a selection of unique elements. The cushions in the living room are ‘ferm’ designs which add a fun geometric styling to the space. We added a wall mounted shelving unit in the kitchen, creating an attractive feature.
