Enchanting Mineheart (posted 30th September 2016)

This year eccentric, enchanting Mineheart spread their magic over the press room at Decorex and on their stands, both at Decorex and 100% Design (at 100% Design theirs was the stand with smoke!)

Why not include Grandfather Olaf too!

Mineheart is the result of a creative combination of Brendan Young and Vanessa Battaglia (Young&Battaglia). “The idea behind Mineheart is to create a playground for creativity and discovery, where art meets design, and poetry meets industry.  We try to inject a sense of wonder into everyday objects and spaces around us, telling stories and creating things that are truly surprising.”

Talking of which, Mineheart has collaborated with celebrated artist Simon Schubert to create a mural collection of two of his extraordinary folding artworks. These ethereal art works are made using intricate paper folding techniques. Depicting Baroque-inspired interiors, the low relief of the folds and the neutral light and shade gives each artwork a ghostly feel.  Each mural features a grand palatial interior but the disorientating perspective and the lack of shadow depth creates an eerie and perplexing unfamiliarity. To add to the sense of mystery, each room seems to lead to another space.
