Fresh From Maison & Objet (posted 27th January 2017)
Last weekend four of Suna Interior Design’s designers set of for Paris, to explore Maison & Objet. This is one of THE shows to visit every year, it’s vast and has halls and halls filled with the latest “consumer trends, inspiring experiences, and brand offers, with the show that takes you into three major sections, including two new spaces dedicated to textiles. MAISON is interior decoration. OBJET is concept and retail, while the third section INFLUENCES encompasses luxury, design and architecture.”
We spent a morning this week, flicking through the photos the designers had taken, picking up on the trends and finding the best shots to highlight them. So here they are, the designers favourites and the shots that, for them, summed up this sensational trip.
Sharon, Lead Designer:
This was from our gorgeous apartment in Montmatre..totes Paris!
These peacock chairs were everywhere and this one in green ticked a lot of boxes! Love the green and pink colour scheme.
Theres so much gorgeous lux and tasteful schemes that I was almost craving a bit of good old British quirk…and then came House of Hackney.
Coral with pink with turquoise with violet with pattern? Why not!
Gabriella, Senior Designer:
Jonathan Adler - Totally ‘out there’ Californian - Cool, quirky, loud, Irreverent, OTT. Love it!
One of the Missoni roomsets - Dreamy pastel palette, evocative of warm summer nights in exotic faraway locations. The pattern is instantly recognisable, but feels fresh and new.
J’ADORE this rug - gorgous striking pattern and perfect colour palette; I feel a new scheme coming on...
This little ‘vignette’ was from a shop in St. Germain. Everything is trompe l’oeil - the entire corner is wallpaper the logs are fabric cushions, the fire is fake (and dog too, of course!)
The pretty pastel fabric lanterns capture the magical atmosphere of the Deco Off around the streets of St. Germain at dusk… Time for an aperitif?
Leonnie, Interior Designer:
Pols Potten – Over-sized greenery was everywhere, however these bold painted plants stood out from the crowd!
Loved this collection of pendants which shows a lot of the current light trends…. Metallics, raw woods, wire geometrics and beads.
This combination of OTT hanging greenery and natural tan tones was so apparent throughout the exhibition. This is want I want in my home.
Gervasani – These beautiful quilted cabinets against the ice cool back drop, made me feel... calm and happy!
Sunday Morning Suna girls sightseeing at the Sacre-Coeur (Try saying that quickly 3 times in row!)
Prudence, Interior Designer:
This is a scene that screams maison & object. It’s quaint streets in St Germaine are dotted with fabric showrooms inviting everyone in. The streets dripped with lit lanterns are symbolic and became THE instagramed image of maison and object 2017 a side event coined ’dec off’.
This palate play of Pols Potten was a don’t miss and you couldn’t, being the brightest of all the stalls.
This colour was everywhere a mix of coal meets burnt lentil – having installed a coral scheme at the end of 2016 and creating a scheme in the burnt lentil 2017 I was seeing this colour everywhere. Lentil on my mind.
Love this camping illusion the sculptural brass lights glow like fireflies in tall grass. With the camping stretcher in my colour, burnt lentil and the greens of the bush that remind me of home.
Love these lights they remind me of fireworks at New Year’s, particularly placed at different heights.
I love the pattern challenge and you just cannot go wrong with House of Hackney. These lamps look great as a collection. Like art I would want all in the series.
And just because we love to show you what we’ve discovered, here is a little summary of the major trends at Maison Objet 2017:
Animals - last year taxidermy was huge, this year there's a more playful, faux side (no bunny's were harmed in the making of the chair).
And finally because we know it’s Friday, here are a selection of shots, showing the trends in situ!
Have a great weekend,
