Harbourside Bristol (posted 12th March 2013)

We've had two projects for Crest Nicholson Regeneration Harbourside in Bristol. Both involved designing for apartments with two double bedrooms, a living/dining space and bathroom. Bristol is a hip, cosmopolitan, forward thinking and vibrant city, with a young demographic. The brief: design for that target audience. The trick: give both apartments a different look and feel.

Inspired by the waterside location of the development, the colour palette is blue and white, with indigo being very on trend at the moment.

Youthful materials have been used, such as the denim corner sofa, dressed with trendy striped cushions. The master bedroom is personalised with charming Scandinavian Mr & Mrs Posters from Ferm Living, while a deep indigo wall highlights the proximity of the ocean and creates a striking impact in the room.

Funky porthole mirrors have been used throughout the apartment, accentuating the harbour side theme. Which is further reflected in the ceiling lighting in the second bedroom: a diamond cut acrylic pendant shade that makes a very characteristically aquatic-like pattern on the walls.

The second apartment was inspired by nature. The colour palette reflects this with fresh naturals of creams, browns and white with an injection of teal and lime green. A motif of birds, butterflies and trees mirrors the spring-trend accented colours.

The furniture is a mixture of white contemporary materials, forms and wood. Statement pieces include a tree stand in the lounge by Skandium; a white classic tulip table and furniture pieces with oak legs; newspaper prints with birds and butterflies and trendy stealth stools, with their 'twiggy' look echoing the theme of nature. Colour is injected into the crisp white design through accessories such as the rug and television unit, while clean lines are maintained throughout by use of stylistic furniture such as the white leather sofa.

To further enhance the spaces and maximise the light, mirrors and reflective surfaces have been used throughout both apartments which also boast high ceilings, giving them a spacious feel. Because of high volume ceilings, sizeable light installations feature in these fresh, zesty and youthful apartments.
